Suspected baby murderers appear in court

Two men and one woman, all three suspected of being responsible for the
death of 11-month-old baby Luis Santiago Lozano that caused a wave of
indignation in Colombia, appeared in court Wednesday.

The father, suspected to have masterminded the kidnapping of the baby from his mother’s house in Gía, already admitted to have paid the second suspect, Martha Garzón, 500 thousand pesos (US$ 250) to kidnap the baby from his mother’s home. The father told the police he didn’t have the money to support the child.

The baby was found dead on the side of a road in a rural part of Cundimarca.

The murder caused a wave of indignation and anger in Colombia. E-mails were sent around calling for support of the baby’s family, expressing disgust of the murder.
