The president of Colombia’s Supreme Court, Javier Ricaurte, resigned
before the judges of the highest court were able to elect a successor.
The Court has been trying to elect a new leader for quite some while already. Last Thursday, judges told newspaper El Tiempo that even after 32 votes, there still was no agreement on who the new president of the court should be.
“Dr. Ricaurte resigned due to the long process of the Court to elect a new leader and because of the compromises he made as new President of the Labour Court of Appeal of the Corporation,” the Supreme Court said in a statement.
Supreme Court judge Javier Zapata will temprarily take over the task of President until his collegues are able to elect one. A new vote will be held on March 30.
