Court drops irregular financing charges against Piedad Cordoba

Colombia’s Supreme Court Wednesdsy dropped the charges against Piedad Cordoba for alleged irregularities in the financing of a fellow-politician.

The court’s decision came two days after the Prosecutor General’s Office ruled that Cordoba had broken electoral regulations donating $14,000 to then House candidate Ricardo Montenegro without informing her Liberal Party.

Prosecutor General Alejandro Ordoñez barred the former senator from holding public office for 14 years over the transaction.

However, according to the Supreme Court there is no merit for a criminal investigation for the senator who is also investigated for her alleged ties to guerrilla group FARC.
