Supreme Court calls extradited warlords for questioning

by Adriaan Alsema April 28, 2009

Colombia news - Mancuso Don berna

Colombia’s Supreme Court officially called extradited paramilitary
warlords Salvatore Mancuso and ‘Don Berna‘ to testify about their ties
to Colombian politicians.

Both paramilitary bosses are currently in the United States. Diego Fernando ‘Don Berna’ Murillo was sentenced to 31 years in prison by a U.S. court last week, while Salvatore Mancuso is still on trial. Both have agreed to collaborate with Colombian justice to clarify the crimes committed under their command and their links to Colombian politicians.

‘Don Berna’ will have to testify against former Congress President Nancy Patricia Gutierrez and former congresswoman Zuleta Jattin.

The court wants to question Salvatore Mancuso about his alleged ties to politicians Armando Benedetti, Julio Manzur and Musa Besaile Fayad.

The politicians are suspected of having used paramilitary intimidation to be voted into Congress.
