Summer Dance Festival in Cartagena canceled

After complaints by the community the Cartagena city council decided to cancel the annual Summer Dance Festival to be held this week in
Colombia’s most popular tourist destination.

According to Cartagena mayor Judith Pinedo Flórez, the event will have to be organized elsewhere. “One of the most important reasons for denying the permit is we received repeated complaints from the community,” she said.

The electronic dance festival, an important attraction for younger tourists in the colonial city, is “a problem, because for the security it needs a lot of the human resources the city needs in other zones,” the mayor added.

The organization of the event will now have to return the money paid for the tickets and may face claims by the world renowned artists that were booked for the three-day dance festival.
