Still no evidence found of illegal wiretapping

Investigators have still not found any recordings of illegal wiretaps
by Colombia’s intelligence service DAS, the Prosecutor General’s Office
admits.

The prosecutor in charge of the investigation, Guillermo Mendoza, told Caracol Radio that his team is still going through the hard disks and usb-sticks found during searches inside the DAS headquarters, but haven’t found anything that could be considered evidence of the illegal interception of telephone calls.

According to Mendoza, the investigators are still investigating whether the confiscated usb-sticks and hard disks contain audio recordings.

The DAS was turned upside down by PG investigators after officials told weekly Semana that they had been illegally wiretapping political opponents of the Government, Supreme Court judges and journalists.

The Government repeatedly denied having ordered illegal wiretaps, but did announce rigid reforms in the intelligence service.
