Still no deal for Colombia’s private television channels

Colombia’s private television channels RCN and Caracol continue to
fight with the National Television Commission (CNTV) about what they have to
pay to have their broadcast license renewed.

CNTV offered to reduce the renewal fee with 14 percent of the original US$82 million the networks needed to pay, but both Caracol and RCN rejected the offer immediately.

The two channels are confronted with a yet unknown third private channel to compete with and say they can impossible pay that amount of money.

Even though the offer made by CNTV is final, the channels will still have to respond officially. Earlier Caracol TV decided to stop its transmission if it had to pay such a large amount of money.
