State Council President denies his function has to do with the murder of brother

by Adriaan Alsema January 11, 2009

President of Colombia’s State Council Enrique Gil Botero denies the
assassination of his brother Saturday has anything to do with his
presidency of the country’s highest administrative court.

“There is not one hint, no evidence that attributes this [murder] to my activities as president of the State Council, it is an unfortunate fact for all in my family,” Gil told Caracol Radio Sunday.

The State Council president added he had spoken to his brother last week and had never heard him say anything about threats against his life or problems with anyone.

“My brother was a man dedicated to his family, a brilliant electrical engineer. He had a company with two partners and conducted research of his own and provided services for the Medellín metro, Parque la Flora and Empresas Públicas de Medellín,” the judge said.

Luciano Gil Botero was killed by two hitmen Saturday in the
Belén / Las Playas area in the south east of Medellín.
