Disagreements with Colombia’s aviation agency could lead Spirit Air to cancel three of the daily flights on their route between Fort Lauderdale and Cartagena just four months after opening the connection.
Cancellation of the flights would be a setback for a Colombian air network that saw a number of new routes open up last month, including a direct Canada to Cartagena route. Earlier this week, two new domestic airlines were proposed.
Conflicts over surcharges on tickets purchased over the internet and taxes on flights outside of Colombia have caused the controversy, reported El Tiempo.
“We feel discriminated against,” said Juan Arbeláez, director of Communications and Busissness for Spirit in Latin America.
Colombia’s tourist minister has blamed the country’s low number of tourists on lack of flights.
