Spain arrests alleged FARC guerrilla

Spanish police detained a Colombian national suspected of being a member of guerrilla group the FARC Tuesday.

The suspect, arrested in Madrid, was identified as Leyla Yolita OM, 39, and a native of Popayan in the southern Colombian department of Cauca, El Nuevo Herald reports.

The detainee worked as a liaison officer in Europe, linking members of the FARC and facilitating their involvement in international forums, the Spanish Interior Ministry said in a brief statement.

Yolita is wanted by the Colombian authorities.

Spanish police said they are conducting several searches of premises in Madrid and did not rule out further arrests.
