Son of Colombian drug-trafficker arrested in Bolivia

The son of an imprisoned Colombian drug-trafficker was arrested in Bolivia while loading a plane with weaponry and cocaine refining equipment.

Adhemar Andrade who was captured by Bolivian anti-narcotics forces, is considered to be one of the big fish of narco-trafficking in Bolivia, and is the son of Celimo Andrade, a member of the notorious Cali Cartel, himself arrested in 1992 in Bolivia where he is currently serving a prison sentence.

Andrade was arrested along with another big drug-trafficker Ronald Rivera Roca, during an anti-drugs sting at a clandestine airstrip in a rural village more than 150 miles east of Bolivian city Santa Cruz. They were caught while loading a plane with arms, munitions and material for a cocaine refinery in a village in the Amazon region bordering Brazil.

According to reports the police are investigating whether the father, Celimo Andrade, who has attempted escape from prison using sophisticated weaponry and aircraft, is still running the drug-trafficking ring from prison.

Operations are continuing against the rest of the criminal gang and raids were made on homes in Bolivia during the night.
