Soler to lead team at Swiss cycling race

by Jonathan Roorda February 26, 2009

Colombian cyclist Mauricio Soler has been selected to lead his team,
Barloworld, at the upcoming Gran Premio Dell’Insubria, in Italy and
Switzerland.

This was confirmed by team manager Valerio Tibaldi on Tuesday, two days ahead of the actual race.

The GP Dell’Insubria celebrates its very first edition, with start in Como, Italy. After a 173km course, the riders will finish in the Swiss town of Lugano.

Soler is Colombia’s most successful cyclist in recent years, having won the Mountains Classification in the 2007 Tour de France. The Boyacá-born 26-year-old hoped to defend his Polka-Dot sweater in 2008 but crashed in the opening stage.

While Saturday’s race is not one of the most important, it could help Soler in his preparation for this year’s Tour, which is scheduled to be ridden in July.
