Barranquilla-born Sofia Vergara is to star in a movie scripted by iconic Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, according to rumours emanating from the film mecca Cannes and magazine Terra.
Almodovar, who has often cast Penelope Cruz as his leading lady, will instead work with Colombian Vergara, praised for her role in the TV show “Modern Family.”
Almodovar has been working on the script for the screen adaptation of “The Paperboy” with author Pete Dexter for over a decade. The film is to be directed by Lee Daniels, of “Precious” fame.
The sexual thriller, revolving around a Florida newspaper owner and editor caught up in a criminal investigation, is also rumored to star Matthew McConaughey, Tobey Maguire and Zac Efron.
