Colombian heartthrob and media darling Sofia Vergara defends her native country’s reputation following the scandal of U.S Secret Service agents hiring prostitutes in Cartagena.
“Never, never in my life have I heard or read about anyone going to Colombia specifically to look for easy women, and one scandal isn’t going to change that. The press loves to create controversy and to generalize the news and I wasn’t ready for that. From this Secret Service incident no one can damage the image of our women. (…) The good image of Colombia is very strong internationally and has many powerful ambassadors,” Vergara told the Spanish version of the Huffington Post.
The incident, which involved a group of U.S. Secret Service agents and military personnel hiring 21 prostitutues days before the start of the Summit of the Americas last month, has garnered lots of negative attention for Cartagena, Colombia’s premier tourist destination.
The 40-year-old Vergara, star of the hit comedy “Modern Family,” made waves this week after revealing her breasts in a photo spread for Mexican GQ magazine.
