Soccer star ‘Tino’ Asprilla accused of neglecting child support

Colombia news - faustino asprilla

One of Colombia’s greatest soccer stars of all time is on trial for neglecting to pay child support for more than three years, Colombian media reported.

Prosecutors have accused Faustino ‘Tino’ Asprilla of not paying child support for his son, now 18, since May 2008. They announced that testimonies and documented evidence are lined up against the star.

Once ranked by FIFA as the 6th best soccer player in the world, Asprilla has a long, controversial history of run ins with the law and on-and-off-field antics. From sending the 1997 championship-bound Newcastle in the English Premier League into a tail-spin to attacking a bus driver before a game, Asprilla was also the first man to pose naked in a Colombian magazine.
