Soccer fans organize wake for Cordoba

Fans of Colombian soccer club Deportivo Cali organized a wake for Hernan Cordoba, one of two soccer players that died in a car crash on Sunday.

The body of the 19-year-old was transported to the Deportivo Cali headquarters for this wake, before he is taken to his home town Palmira, not far from the Valle del Cauca capital.

Cordoba played for Atletico Huila, but was actually on loan from Deportivo Cali.

The player, along with Huila teammate Mario Beltran and two others, crashed at about 1am on Sunday. Three were killed in the accident, and one seriously wounded.

Mario Beltran’s body was taken to his home town Garzon, where several Huila teammates assisted a mass to commemorate the player. The third victim, Maria Helena Cruz Sotelo, was transported to Neiva.

The only survivor of the accident is 17-year-old Juan Camilo Restrepo, yet another player of Atletico Huila. The youngster is no longer in life danger but suffered second degree burns.
