Small Colombian town elects Miss Gay Universe

Eight local men from a small town in Colombia’s coffee-growing Quindio department competed for the title of Miss Gay Universe.

The contest took place Thursday in La Tebaida, a town with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants. To give the beauty pageant more of an international feel, the contestants each picked a country to represent. The lucky nations represented at this prestigious event were

Leonardo Lopez, or Veronica de la Torre, who chose to represent the Dominican Republic, won the beauty pageant. She hopes her victory will help the event to become big in La Tebadia.

“I feel really good, because last year it was all among friends, not a lot of people showed up. But this time there was a good participation from the locals and I loved the positive attitude of the assistants. Hopefully next year we can count on even more help and participation,” the newly elected miss told local newspaper La Cronica del Quindio.
