Seven police and 25 guerrillas killed in combat

Seven policemen and 25 guerrillas were killed after a guerrilla ambush led to heavy battle near Jamundi, Valle del Cauca.

The Policemen were part of a mobile squadron and were attacked while passing through Timba, a village in the south of the department. The squadron was on its way to do an inspection elsewhere.

A local rebel commander known as ‘El Enano’, or The Midget, appeared
to be among the guerrillas killed in the fighting near the town of
Buenos Aires in Cauca province, police said.

Government security forces continued battling members of the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as FARC, into Monday
night around Buenos Aires, authorities said.
