Shakira’s beau Gerard Pique warned the media Tuesday that his potential fatherhood is a “private matter.”
The famed Barcelona soccer player said that he understands that both he and the Colombian singer are public figures and therefore their relationship is bound to be a subject of gossip, but he considers the matter of him being a possible father to be inappropriate as public criteria.
“This is a private matter. I don’t like to talk about it,” said the Barcelona soccer player between laughs in a radio interview with sports program El Larguero.
Pique admits that in general, footballers are “in the eye of the storm,” but it doesn’t seem right to him that the game be related with private life. In his case specifically, he doesn’t consent to his performance being questioned because of his relationship with Shakira.
“Sometimes things will not go well for you and if there is another player that plays better, then they play. I can have a bad game, but it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with my relationship. It’s normal that she is talked about because she is a public person. But it doesn’t matter what girlfriend you have. When one plays well, it’s not thanks to their girlfriend, and when one plays poorly, it is not her fault either,” said Pique.
Shakira is currently engaged to the Spanish soccer player Pique whom she met while shooting her World Cup “Waka Waka” music video in 2010, and speculation that she is pregnant has been more abundant over the last few weeks.
According to several rumors abound, the baby of Shakira and Pique will be born in January, while others are saying that the pregnancy of the Colombian is at a high risk, reported newspaper El Espectador.
The soccer phenomenon’s statements come right as Shakira finds herself in a tangled web of legal messes.
On one side she is confronting a legal demand from her ex-fiance Antonio de la Rua for an alleged compensation of $250 million. De la Rua is claiming that he gave up his career as a publicist to devote himself to the singer’s career.
To add to her troubles, Shakira’s ex-employees accused the famed singer of aggravated slander in front of prosecution Tuesday, reported newspaper El Tiempo.
Shakira then sued the two former employees for defamation and extortion. This is part of an on-going saga during which her ex-employees claimed to have a sex-tape of the singer that they then allegedly attempted to blackmail her with and sell to Spanish media. There was even speculation in the media that De la Rua had been behind the sex-tape rumors as well.
The couple’s lawyer Abelardo de la Espriella ratified the criminal lawsuit Tuesday against Shakira and her lawyer Ezequiel Camerini for libel of accusing the former employees of blackmail.
