Shakira’s father says he never confirmed daughter’s pregancy

Shakira‘s father wasted no time in responding to Latin American media reports that he confirmed his celebrity daughter’s pregnancy on a Colombian TV program.

“I’ve heard from the press that some media claim to have confirmed the pregnancy of my daughter. Of course, this is absolutely false. I want to reiterate as I said in the interview given recently, that hopefully [she will become pregnant] soon and hopefully we can give the good news because I know it would please all of us. I never said anything other than that, nor have I confirmed [the pregnancy],” said William Mebarak.

Mebarak told TV program “The Other Vision” Thursday that “we hope that the news” of her pregnancy “is official soon.” This stoked rumors that the Colombian pop star was expecting with her soccer star boyfriend, Gerard Pique. A Colombian magazine recently reported that the singer was six months pregnant, based on accounts from a “highly reliable source.”

Shakira has yet to personally confirm or deny the reports.
