Shakira has yet to confirm or deny recent pregnancy rumors, but her father seems excited about the possibility.
“We hope that the news is official soon,” William Mebarak, poppa Shakira said in an interview on Colombian TV show, “The Other Vision.”
The comments fueled ongoing speculation that the Colombian pop star is expecting. Rumors regarding Shakira’s supposed first child with soccer-star boyfriend Gerard Pique spread like wildfire after the singer recently canceled two shows in Spain.
Debate was further sparked by the fact that while Shakira normally uses her Twitter account to verify these types of rumors, the diva has remained silent on the matter, with only her management denying the pregnancy.
The 35-year-old pop star is six months pregnant but waiting “a prudent amount of time,” to spread the news, according to Gente magazine’s Colombian edition, citing a “highly reliable source.”
Shakira’s representatives apparently have no plans “to make an official announcement in that regard,” spokesman Rodrigo Beltran told Efe.
The Colombian songstress’ social media manager squashed speculation over her pregnancy earlier this month, saying the claim was “another false rumor.”
