Shakira wins big at Billboard Latin Awards

Shakira took home six awards from the Billboard Latin Music Awards in Miami on Thursday night.

The Colombian beauty won honors for being Latin Pop Airplay Artist of the Year, Solo and Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year Female for her airplay accomplishments, and Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Female, for sales of her album “Sale el Sol.”

“Sale El Sol” also won Latin Digital Album of the year while “Waka Waka,” the theme song for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, was the Latin Digital Download of the Year.

She was outdone however by Spaniard Enrique Iglesias who won nine awards including the all important Latin Artist of the Year.

Despite picking up so many awards, Shakira didn’t make an appearance at the awards ceremony, after rumors suggested her new boyfriend Spanish soccer star urged her to stay with him in Spain.

It is a big improvement on last year when the pop-star only walked away with two Billboard awards.

The ceremony was opened by Iglesias, who performed two of his hit songs, “No me digas que no” and “Tonight”. Colombian hunk Juanes also rocked the event with his hit song “Regalito”, although he failed to pick up any awards.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards honor the most popular albums, songs, and performers in Latin music, as determined by sales and radio airplay data.
