Shakira to reward education pioneers at Americas Summit

Colombian superstar Shakira will award prizes to educational pioneers at the Sixth Summit of the Americas.

The singer will hand out awards recognizing programs which educate children under 6-years-old in Latin America and the Caribbean at the continental conference in April.

The Latin America Solidarity Action Foundation (ALAS), of which Shakira is one of the founders, is joining with the Inter-American Development Bank to offer prizes to professionals and organizations that have made significant contributions to early childhood development in the region.

There will be four categories: Best Center, Best Educator, Best Publication for Children and Best Innovation in Early Childhood Development.

Shakira, who will present the awards during a ceremony at the April Cartagena summit, said, “It is urgent that we ramp up the commitment of governments and organizations to early infancy and offer all our children the opportunities that they deserve.”
