Shakira picks up best Latin musician at American Music Awards

Shakira on Sunday picked up best Latin artist at the 40th annual American Music Awards.

The Colombian pop star had to fight a tough competition against the likes of Miami-born Pitbull and the Puerto Rican singer Don Omar for the award.

Although the artist was not present to receive her award, the organizers gave recognition for her work and hailed her as an ambassador for Latin music across the globe.

This is the fourth time she has won the award, taking it first in 2005.

This is the latest in a stint of awards she has won in 2012 including a Billboard music award for best Latin artist, four awards in the Latin Billboard awards among many other worldwide and Latin trophies.

Shakira is taking it easy at the moment after disclosing she is pregnant with footballer Gerard Pique’s baby. She is however a judge on the Colombian version of ”The Voice”.
