Shakira opens up about split with Antonio de la Rua

Shakira has broken her silence about ex-boyfriend Antonio de la Rua, international media reported Monday.

Nearly two months after the breakup, and over a week after photos surfaced of Shakira holding hands with new rumored boyfriend Gerard Pique, the Colombian pop singer and Barranquilla native reportedly gave an interview to the Argentine celebrity magazine Luz in which she spoke about her relationship with her ex.

Said Shakira: “Our friendship is solid like a rock. It will always be this way and I will always be by his side, but as a working companion and as a friend. Antonio is the person in whom I most confide in this world. Together with him I was able to get to where I am today.”

The singer declined to comment directly on her relationship with Gerard Pique, saying only, “I will never stop believing in love… I hope that the press may understand and may imagine what it is to be in my position in this moment.”

She added, on a positive note, “I’m living a very big emotional renovation. I am in equilibrium, with plans to enjoy, to laugh and to love each day more.”
