Shakira mourns death of Colombian music legend Escalona

by Adriaan Alsema May 14, 2009

Colombia news - Escalona Shakira

Colombian pop star Shakira Wednesday expressed her grief over the death of Vallenato legend Rafael Escalona.

According to the singer, “all Colombians today mourn the demise of master Escalona, one of the great and unforgettable Vallenato composers, who has marked the hearts every single one of our hearts.”

“We do not just owe our only and great Vallenato Festival to master Escalona, but also the hundreds of magical histories, like those of Garcia Marquez; about loves, people and the travels that are the pride of our country,” she continued.

“Master Escalona, with his composition ‘Elegia a Jaime Molina’, dedicated his natural inspiration to his friend who died. Now every single Colombian must give a song of eternal memory to immortalize his work,” the singer said.
