Shakira denies wedding rumors

Surprise surprise: Shakira denies all rumors of having secretly married longtime partner, Antonio de la Rua.

Gossip sites excitedly speculated all weekend over whether or not the couple of nine years would finally seal the deal.

Unfortunately, it seems that the “very important family matter” in Santo Domingo that Antonio’s father, Argentina’s ex-president Fernando de la Rua was attending on the weekend was not a wedding.

On Twitter early this morning Shakira wrote, “No, I haven’t gotten married. How funny that stuff is invented out there!”

According to her publicist, the singer is currently fine-tuning final preparations for her tour for her new album, Loba (“She-wolf”) as supposedly demonstrated by photos published on her social networking page, the details of which were conveniently not released to the press.

For his part, Antonio spent the weekend in New York City at a function for the Alas (“Wings”) Foundation, of which he is vice president. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization promoting early childhood development in Latin America.

Engaged since 2001, Shakira told Latina.com: “Antonio and I have a really great relationship. I’m not going to say
it’s perfect, because it’s not, but we’re very united as a couple and I
don’t see how we could be any closer by signing a piece of paper…I like
to think of myself as his eternal girlfriend. I could stay in that
state forever.”

It seems increasingly possible that this wedding might never take place. Or is that just what they want us to think?
