Shakira denies giving guitar to Chavez

Colombian pop diva Shakira denies having given an autographed guitar to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez as claimed by his Minister of Information.

According to newspaper El Nuevo Herald, the singer’s representatives explained that she gave the red guitar to the organizers of her concert in Caracas in March, but never meant it to be a present for Chavez.

In a press release, representatives of the singer explained that Shakira signed six guitars while in the Venezuelan capital on request of the organizers.

“We have been informed that one of the guitars was sent to the [Venezuelan] President’s Office. We hope that events like this contribute to the further uniting of the citizens of …. Colombia and Venezuela,” the press release said.
