Shakira and Quincy Jones team up with President to ask for solidarity for Colombia

Music producer Quincy Jones, Colombian pop star Shakira and her country’s President Juan Manuel Santos have teamed up to ask for solidarity and support for Colombia after torrential rains destroyed large parts of the country.

In the video “Rain of Hope,” the three ask the world to show solidarity with the victims of the worst rains in the recorded history of the country and dubbed “Colombia’s Katrina.”

In the video, Jones says his support is inspired by his work with Nelson Mandela who taught him about ubuntu, an African philosphy regarding an individual’s relation to a community.

According to Shakira, “there is no pain in the world that isn’t ours and there are no tears that aren’t ours.”

Colombia is in the process of rebuilding houses and infrastructure destroyed by landslides and floods caused by the excessive rains.
