Four men and three women, believed to be members of guerrilla group the ELN, voluntarily surrendered to the Colombian army in the municipality of Barbacoas, in the violence-ridden Nariño department.

According to an army press release, the guerrillas belonged to the Guerreros del Sindagua column of the Comuneros del Sur Front led by alias “Sebitas,” who surrendered along with the other six.

When the guerrillas turned themselves in they also handed over 45 landmines, 45 kilos of explosives, 946 cartridges of ammunition, and four short-range guns.

General Eliecer Pinto, commander of the Colombian army’s 23rd Brigade, told Caracol Radio that 62 members of the ELN have surrendered in the Nariño department over the last six months.
