Serpa finishes 13th in Giro, Menchov wins

by Jonathan Roorda May 31, 2009

Colombia news - Jose Serpa

Colombian cyclist Jose Serpa finished 13th in the final classification
of the Tour of Italy. Russian Denis Menchov took the overall victory.

Serpa came in 35th in the final stage of the rage, which for the first time in many years ended in Italy’s capital city Rome instead of the more traditional finishing town, Milano.

Throughout the ‘Giro d’Italia’, Serpa managed to maintain his position near the top of the classification. Initially, Soler was the best Colombian but an injury forced the former Tour de France Mountains classification winner to abandon.

Mauricio Ardila finishes 41st in the general classification but will be particularly happy with his Rabobank teammate Menchov winning the race.

Felix Cárdenas is the third and final Colombian in 66th place.
