Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba decreased her chances of winning a second nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize by publicly bickering with actress Diana Angel over Twitter.
The trouble started when Angel, who lives in the apartment beneath the senator’s, complained on her Twitter page about a leak coming through the roof of her apartment. The actress said that she had been asking Cordoba to repair the leak for 10 years with no results, and was using her Twitter account to “publicly ask for help.”
The fight continued with a flurry of Tweets between the two women. Cordoba, who is best known for her efforts to make peace between the government and the FARC guerrillas, at one point accused Angel’s father of “stealing money from the administration.”
Cordoba eventually decided to put her negotiation skills to use and agreed to visit Angel’s apartment to see about the leak. Angel declared “everything will be fixed with a hug.”
Cordoba in turn thanked Angel “for the hug that you gave me,” and peace was restored.
Colombia can only hope that the senator’s efforts to resolve the half-century long war with the FARC guerrillas will be equally successful.
