The Colombian government denounced Spirit Airlines’“More bang for your buck” advertisement that promotes sex tourism in Cartagena, reported local media Thursday.
Outraged Colombian officials demanded the American airline apologize after it took advantage of the U.S. Secret Service sex scandal with an ad that depicts a secret agent-like man with a group of bikini-clad women.
“It is a shameful publication and we demand that the airline withdraw it and publicly apologize to Cartagena and Colombia,” said the Minister of Industrial Commerce and Tourism, Sergio Diaz Granados. The advertisement was promptly removed after the complaints were made.
A group of Secret Service and U.S. military personnel who were stationed in Cartagena as part of President Obama’s security have been accused of drinking heavily and partying with prostitutes in Cartagena.
The scandal has undermined Colombia’s efforts to change its reputation as hotspot for drugs and prostitution.
