Santos ‘very satisfied’ with Obama meeting

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said he left his meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama “very satisfied,” and that the two leaders spoke briefly about the pending bilateral free trade deal.

The presidents held a meeting on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York. Santos revealed that they also discussed ecological issues.

Santos was one of only five world leaders that Obama invited to a private discussion. The other nations whose leaders were granted a one-to-one with the U.S. president were Azerbaijan, Kyrgystan, Japan and China.

Before the meeting Obama congratulated the Colombian leader on his victory in killing FARC second-in-command “Mono Jojoy.”

“The people of Colombia have been plagued by this terrorist insurgency for a very long time,” said the U.S. president. “As a consequence of the success of Colombian security forces, I think we now have the chance to see a continued stability in Colombia and in the region.”
