Santos to attend Maduro’s inauguration in divided Venezuela

Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos on Friday will attend his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro’s inauguration in Caracas, Venezuela’s capital.

The decision comes after Santos traveled to Lima on Thursday to meet with the Union of South American Nations and discuss the issue of Venezuela, whose opposition refuses to accept Maduro’s electoral victory unless a recount is held.

The South American heads of states announced they will attend Maduro’s inauguration in Caracas on Friday.

The Colombian president will attend the inauguration ceremony in Caracas and return to Colombia in the afternoon.

Following his election on Sunday, Colombia congratulated the Maduro on his victory.
