Santos reshuffles campaign team

Colombian presidential candidate Juan Manuel Santos announced a campaign team reshuffle Monday, as the Partido de la U leader tries to claw back his lead in the polls from Green candidate Antanas Mockus.

Roberto Prieto will replace Roberto Velasquez as campaign manager, while Richard Fredy Muñoz will take over as press secretary from Ricardo Galan, who will move to another position, according to Caracol Radio.

Other faces fresh to the campaign will include Juan Mesa, Claudia Lacouture, German Chica, Jose Fernando Bautista, and a Venezuelan, JJ Rendon, as publicist.

The new names are expected to be announced on television on Monday night.

Meanwhile, Santos responded to inflammatory comments made by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez last week.

“These statements are trying to prevent me from getting to the presidency of Colombia,” Santos said.

The Partido de la U candidate said that Chavez is hoping for a president who would allow “the Bolivarian revolution to enter Colombia.”
