Santos rejects trucker strike threat

President Juan Manuel Santos rejects truckers’ threat to strike and calls for dialogue to reach a solution, newspaper El Colombiano reported Wednesday.

“The government, faced with such threats, will not respond,” said Santos.

The 180,000 Colombian truck drivers represented by the Truckers Association of Colombia (ACC), are upset over the government’s plans to reform freight rates.

The union has confirmed plans to begin a strike of freight carriers at midnight Wednesday.
