Ecuador President Rafael Correa thanked President Juan Manuel Santos for his reaction to Thursday’s police uprising in Ecuador, saying that it will help improve bilateral relations between the two countries, reports El Tiempo.
Correa said that he was “very grateful” for Santos’ support, particularly the decision to close the border between the two countries. The Ecuadorean leader added that Colombia’s support “strengthens the process of standardization, of mutual trust” and that the “path towards normalization of relations was already well-advanced.”
Ecuador broke off diplomatic relations with Colombia in March 2008 following a Colombian bombing raid on a FARC camp in Ecuadorian territory, which killed top FARC commander Raul Reyes.
