Santos promises to return 6M ha to displaced

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos on Saturday promised to return 6 million hectares of farmland that were stolen by paramilitary groups after displacing its original owners.

The President said he will soon present to Congress the so-called Land Restitution Law aimed at giving back land to those who were displaced.

Santos hopes that this way displaced farmers will be able to return to the lands they fled from.

Colombia counts more than 3 million displaced. The majority were forced from their lands by violence by guerrilla or paramilitary groups.
