Colombian President Juan Manual Santos instructed his cabinet on Tuesday to focus efforts on getting basic humanitarian aid to the more than 340,000 victims of this rainy season’s floods.
Santos acknowledged on Twitter that many victims have been left homeless and without adequate food supplies or basic assistance, as major transport routes remain impassable.
The president listed as priorities getting basic aid to those most severely in need, and the reopening of several main roads, including those connecting the center and the west to the rest of the country.
The second rainy season this year started in September and has cost more than 65 lives. Meteorologists have said the rains may continue until March next year.
