Colombia announced Wednesday that Fernando Arboleda Ripoll will become Colombia’s ambassador to Ecuador.
“[Arboleda] was president of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, a well known lawyer, and has had a connection and a very important relationship with Ecuador, especially in academia, ” said President Santos.
The president said that Colombia’s new ambassador to Ecuador “is a person who is going to represent all Colombians in this new stage in Ecuador, no doubt with great integrity and with great success.”
In March 2008 Ecuador broke off relations with Colombia after Colombia raided a FARC camp in Ecuadorean territory. Ecuador believed the raid to be a violation of the country’s sovereignty. In November 2010 Colombia and Ecuador fully restored their diplomatic ties.
