Santos names communications minister, DAS director

Colombian President-elect Juan Manuel Santos appoints Diego  Vega as his communications minister, and confirms that Felipe  will remain head of intelligence agency DAS, reports Caracol.

Molano, an engineer and economist, is working on policy continuity with his predecessor and has vowed to improve Colombia’s telecommunications infrastructure.

“It’s a time when we have to ensure that technology reaches all Colombians; that every Colombian has an easier route to the use of technology,” Molano said.

Muñoz, who has had a turbulent time as head of the scandal-ridden intelligence agency, said he was grateful for the vote of confidence from the president-elect and added that the agency would focus on restructuring.

“We will review in detail the agenda of DAS for this new phase … [and] continue to act with transparency,” Muñoz said.

Santos also appointed Jaime Restrepo and Carlos Rosado as new heads of key departments in the intelligence agency.

The announcements were made following the first series of meetings

The new administration comes into power on August 7, when Santos is inaugurated as Colombia’s president.
