Santos: ‘My heart is driving me towards re-election’

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has once again strongly hinted at the possibility of running for re-election in the presidential campaign in 2014.Colombian newspaper El Espectador revealed on Wednesday that in an interview with the president of the chamber Hernan Penagos, Santos told him that “Of course, my heart is pushing for re-election – it would be good to maintain these current policies and to harvest the fruits of our previous labors over the next four years.”

While Santos is yet to explicitly announce his candidacy for the 2014 presidential race he has publicly paved his way to start the re-election process and has hinted on many occasions that he would like to do so.

In May of this year he told Colombian and international media that “I want clearly and firmly to see this government’s policies continue after August 7, 2014.”

He went on to say that “I want the peace policy re-elected, I want the housing policy re-elected, those that have reduced poverty – re-elected.”
