Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos has reached out to other Caribbean countries to try and halt the ambitions of Nicaragua, local media reported Thursday.
According to local reports, Santos has communicated directly with the governments of Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras and Jamaica in an attempt to rally support against Nicaragua’s desire to further expand their waters.

The argument over the waters began when Nicaragua insisted that waters Colombia claimed should belong to them. After referring the case to the International Court, Colombia was shocked when the ruling agreed with Nicaragua.
Emboldened by the court’s decision, Nicaragua has since pursued the chance to try and claim more of the waters in the area.
Colombian media reported that president Santos said “we are an direct communication with all the countries that have been violated by the ruling and Nicaragua’s excessive claims.”
