Colombia news - Juan Manuel Santos

Colombia’s President-elect Juan Manuel Santos refused to comment on the recent announcement that the Colombian government has proof of FARC presence in Venezuela.

“I have nothing to say,” he replied when approached by reporters after attending a conference organised by the Colombo-Americano Chamber of Commerce in Miami.

On Thursday morning Bogota released an official statement claiming to have recent and indisputable proof that FARC leaders including Ivan Marquez and Rodrigo Granda are hiding out in Venezuela, and said it will make the alleged evidence public within hours.

The announcement marked the first public assertion of proof for Colombia’s long-held belief of FARC and ELN presence in Venezuela, and is sure to heighten political tensions that have cut more than $7 billion in cross-border trade in recent months.
