Santos congratules Humala on winning Peru elections

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos called Ollanta Humala Monday to congratulate the Peruvian president-elect with his victory in Sunday’s presidential elections.

According to a presidential press statement, Santos “has contacted the President-elect of Peru, Ollanta Humala, telefonically. The Colombian leader congratulated the president elect for his victory in the electoral vote that consolidates the Peruvian democracy.”

In the conversation, “Santos reiterated Colombia’s commitment to continue working at the strengthening of relations between the two countries and of all Latin America,” the statement said.

The leftist Humala won the elections with only a few percent more than his opponent Keiko Fujimora, who admitted defeat Monday.
