Santos asks Obama to look at Colombia with different eyes

Colombia’s vice President Francisco Santos asked U.S. President-elect
Barack Obama to see the efforts Colombia is making to defend human
rights and to look at the country with “different eyes”.

“Let him look at the reality of what happens, not look at us through this negative prisma that they sometimes show some sectors of the Democratic Party. Here we simply are  open about discussing our problems, to find solutions and to strengthen the strategic relation we have with the United States,” Santos said Saturday.

Santos also expressed the government’s hope that the U.S.-Colombian free trade agreement will still be included in the November 17 U.S. congress session, the last before Barack Obama takes office.
