Santos approval rating at 43%

Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos has seen his approval rating rise slightly, although he is still perceived negatively by more than fifty percent of the country’s population.

FACT SHEET: Juan Manuel Santos Approval Ratings (August 2010 – Present)

The figures, released on Monday by news website CM&, are the result of a survey about the image of the President and his government after 37 months in office, carried out by the National Center of Consultancy.

His government is disapproved by 58% of those surveyed, with 60% considering the country to be heading in the wrong direction.

In response to the question, “Do you have a positive or negative image of the President?”, only 43% responded positively, with 56% responding negatively.

In August, the same question saw 58% of those surveyed showing themselves in favor of the President, a figure which plummeted to 34% in September in the midst of the national agrarian strikes.

A survey by pollster Ipsos Napoleon Franco at the end of September, released by RCN radio and weekly Semana, estimated the chance of Santos’ reelection at just 19%.
