Santa Marta introduces wi-fi on beaches

Tourist on the northern Colombian beaches of Taganga, Rodadero, and Santa Marta can surf the internet for free while sunbathing, thanks to newly installed wi-fi transmitters.

Beach-goers can now enjoy internet services in many locations near Magdalena, including the historic district and local parks such as Bolivar, San Miguel, and the Lovers Park.

The project was approved by the minister of communications and the mayor’s office of Santa Marta at a cost of COP170 million.

Hotel representative Omar Garcia hopes that the free internet access will give the region a competitive edge over other tourist destinations.
