Santa Fe and Millonarios draw in Bogotá classic

Saturday’s Bogotá classic between Independiente Santa Fe and
Millonarios ended in a 1-1 draw, a result that leaves both sides
practically out of contention. Boyacá Chicó are on course for a
top-eight finish with a 4-0 win over Cúcuta Deportivo.

The first half at Santa Fe versus Millonarios lacked entertainment but the second half made up for it. Mario González curled a shot past keeper Cuadrado four minutes after the break to give Santa Fe a 1-0 lead.

But disaster struck for the red side as referee Adrian Vélez handed Millonarios a penalty for a supposed Julio Agustín foul on Carmelo Valencia. While video images clearly showed that the keeper never touched his opponent, he was sent off in addition to the penalty.

As Santa Fe had already used all of their substitutions, defender Javier Arizales stepped up to defend his side’s goal. Iván Hurtado did easily convert the spot kick but Arizales went on to make some fine saves, avoiding further damage.

Andrés González followed Agustín for an early shower in the 80th minute and Millonarios had Jhonatan Estrada sent off seven minutes later.

Boyacá Chicó are second following a comfortable win over Cúcuta. Mario García and Marco Pérez scored in the first half, followed by second-half goals from Wiston Girón and, again, Marco Pérez.
